September 24, 2026
In short

An overview of Flourishing Advantage in education: how the Flourishing Life Questionnaire and the four-domain framework help schools build resilient, capable students, with results from a six-year case study. For school and district leaders.

Helping educators hear, understand and respond to the potential of every student, as the starting point for building the capacity to flourish.

The changing role of schools and educators

Schools are now measured on more than academic results. Resilience, character strengths and life skills sit alongside achievement, and students show higher readiness for post-secondary study and employment when educators design learning conditions around a strengths-based model.

Why now

Research shows that strengths-based practice raises the student outcomes schools are accountable for and improves staff retention, reducing cost to schools and districts. A strengths-based culture is the condition that makes those results repeatable rather than occasional.

Provides
Connection
Engaging students on the basis of acceptance, respect and belief in their potential.
Creates
Purpose
Strengthens self-determination, motivation and readiness for college, career and citizenship.
Supports
Decisions
Gives a baseline and the means to align supports and resources to each student.
Promotes
Flourishing
Supports students to grow into the most capable version of themselves.

The Flourishing Advantage Framework

Inputs from the Flourishing Life Questionnaire (FLQ) produce an individual profile for each student across four measured domains. The profile shows what a student can already draw on, and where support will make the most difference.

01
Well-Being and Mental Fitness
Self-awareness · Self-management · Self-care
02
Relational and System Support
Care-giver influence · School influence · Peer and community
03
Learning Agility and Achievement
Learning influence · Mastery skills · Adaptability
04
Growth and Performance Skills
Internal traits · External traits · Soft skills in use
Resilience
What a student draws on to meet challenge well.
Competence
What a student uses to turn capacity into performance.
Outcome
Flourishing and well-being
Measured again over time, so change is visible.

88%
said teachers spoke more about their strengths than their weaknesses

"The web-based data site was easy to access and the results were easy to understand. What made the difference is that we can now focus on facts, with the right information to make decisions."

— Renee Coulombe, Secondary Principal

"Based on the strengths-based model and tools developed by Dr. Wayne Hammond at Flourishing Advantage, we were able to clarify each student's strengths and vulnerabilities and provide the support they needed."

— Don Barbor, High School Principal

Flourishing Advantage

Flourishing Advantage

Flourishing Advantage is a strengths-based organizational development company founded by Dr. Wayne Hammond. Our work rests on one idea: build on what's strong instead of trying to fix what's broken. Using the Flourishing Life Questionnaire (FLQ), we help schools, organizations and individuals find the strengths they already have. We then put the structure in place to grow them. The resources here are practical tools for leaders, educators and anyone who wants to measure and build their capacity to flourish.
